Monster Toast

We got this idea from a "Mommy and Me" cookbook. All you need is a little bit of water and a few drops of food coloring. Stir, then use a clean paint brush to make a monster face on your bread, or any design you like. Toast it. What a fun way to make toast!

This turned out to be more of an experiment. We learned that the wet, painted spots stay wet in the toaster while the dry spaces toast as normal. If you toast it longer to not have wet spots, then the dry areas burn. We had to scrape off the burnt areas and were still able to eat our creations. Next we tried painting a design over the whole bread, front and back, including the crust. Then toast it longer than you normally would. This approach works much better, as it toasts evenly.
We recommend just honey on your toast, (not jam or cinnamon sugar) so you can still see your picture.

My children would love doing this - thanks for the tip on how to paint it.
